چکیده
With increasing interest in citizen science, this paper discusses how amateur naturalism, especially entomology, is placed within science discourses. Through a case study of entomology Finland, the amateurs' diverse motivations for engaging with nature. The affective and ethical aspects its implications science. discussion based on an ethnographic entomologist society. suggests that naturalism cannot be reduced to any single definition but entomologists enact different epistemologies as knowledge producers active citizens. amateurs are often motivated by 'first contract' rich culture may democratize 're-enchanting' provided scientist worldview superior data not allowed conceal diversity motivations.

Nutrition affects insect susceptibility to Bt toxins
Pesticide resistance represents a major challenge to global food production. The spread of resistance alleles is the primary explanation for observations of reduced pesticide efficacy over time, but the potential for gene-by-environment interactions (plasticity) to mediate susceptibility has largely been overlooked. Here we show that nutrition is an environmental factor that affects susceptibil...
متن کاملChemical diversity in Brassica oleracea affects biodiversity of insect herbivores.
Intraspecific variation in plants plays a major role in the composition and diversity of the associated insect community. Resistance traits of plants are likely candidates mediating community composition. However, it is debated whether total concentrations of chemical compounds or specific compounds determine herbivore resistance, and how chemical diversity among plant genotypes in turn affects...
متن کاملSurface roughness rather than surface chemistry essentially affects insect adhesion
The attachment ability of ladybird beetles Coccinella septempunctata was systematically investigated on eight types of surface, each with different chemical and topographical properties. The results of traction force tests clearly demonstrated that chemical surface properties, such as static/dynamic de-wettability of water and oil caused by specific chemical compositions, had no significant eff...

متن کاملThermal conditioning of fifth-instar Cydia pomonella (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) affects HSP70 accumulation and insect mortality
Levels of HSP70 protein of fifth-instar codling moth [Cydia pomonella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae)] are determined after conditioning at 35 C for different times and also after recovery at 22 C. Protein samples from larvae conditioned for different times are separated by sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis electrophoresis. Sub-lethal thermal conditioning at 35 C for 40...
